Elan Award: Canadian Awards for the Electronic & Animated Arts

The official statuette for the Canadian Awards for the Electronic and Animated Arts is named Elan. The awards ceremony took place on September 14, 2006, at the River Rock Casino in Richmond, B.C. and was hosted by William Shatner.

Elan is comprised of two figures molded together suggesting a slight likeness to the ancient Greek Gods. El is from the first two letters in Electronic and is the God of Electronic Gaming; An is from the first two letters of Animation and is the Goddess of Animation.

The statuette has the figure of a woman (An), mostly featureless, looking skyward representing the future. She is holding in her hands high above her head a frame which represents both a computer and television screen. Standing at her back and mostly molded together is the figure of a man (El), again mostly featureless. The man is also looking skyward (into the future) and is holding the world above his head, coming through the middle of the woman’s screen representing world communications. The continents of the world are sketched and Canada is etched in as this year these are Canadian awards.
